Becharof National Wildlife Refuge

Bear Creek Slough for Dolly Varden

Becharof National Wildlife Refuge is surrounded by volcano’s. We were guided into a lake esturary ‘Bear Creek’ full of spaning sockeye salmon. We were under blue bird late morning and the shadow of Mt. Peulik and a meadow full of Alaskan Lupine Purple flowers. Saw a few bears and lots of evidence of the bruins everywhere. Also viewed some wolf tracks on the lake beach. So we were fishing for Dolly Vardens who follow the Salmon in the Pods. So this was sight fishing with egg streamers. Some folks were using dry flies. We caught lots these beautiful, fighting Alaskan fish.
